Working Stiff

And in the night there I waited

Blacker than coal

Patiently anticipated

The time to grow bold

Had I read the text right

Surely it must be

Every Saturday night

He’ll eventually take leave

And I will seek shelter

Comfort and song

In the arms of a woman

That I don’t belong

Each time it’s the same

Slowly at first

Conversation mundane

Then it’s off with the skirt

Off with the shoes

And off with the shirt

We’ve been at it too long

There’s no need to flirt

Her husband returns

The next week the same

I slip out the back

The same as I came
